Whenever a user accesses QuickBooks online banking, they need to verify their identity to their financial institution for security reasons. Bank connection error 185 occurs whenever a user’s financial institution requires more information than what is saved in QuickBooks.

If you have set multiple security questions for identity verification, you need to answer every question to access online banking. You might also need to provide a one-time password sent to you by your bank for identity verification. QB saves the answers to your security questions with user permission.  However, in case more questions appear, or the answer for any question is not correct, then QB encounter error 185.

Steps to Troubleshoot QuickBooks Online Banking Error 185

Refreshing the bank account in QuickBooks prompts it to reconnect to the bank account and if there are any glitches in the connection, they get resolved automatically. Follow the instructions below to quickly refresh and reconnect your bank account to QuickBooks.

  1. Open QuickBooks and navigate to the Bank Accounts page.
  2. Hit Refresh all option.
  3. After the update, click Refresh all option once again.
  4. Repeat the same process at least 5 more times.
  5. If you get any security questions, type the answer and press Enter.

IMPORTANT: The answers for the security questions are stored in the cookies, and once the cookies are expired, you get the error 185. If the error appears because of the expired cookies, refresh the account to get the account verification page.
